Workforce Education

The mission of the Workforce Training & Development Division is to provide courses and programs that meet regional business and industry needs as well as special interests of the residents of our service delivery area. The purpose of the Workforce Training & Development Division is to prepare students for certification in a skill or trade and to facilitate continual self-improvement through professional development and personal enrichment classes.


Training for Individuals

Southwest Texas Junior College's Workforce Training & Development Division is the economic development team for individuals, businesses, industries, and organizations across our 11-county service delivery area. Several of the courses offered through Workforce Training and Development earn students credits that may be applied to an Associate's Degree in a given field of study.

Customized Training

SWTJC Workforce Training & Development provides customized training services in support of creating full-time production and direct customer service positions, thereby enhancing the growth potential of companies located in our service area, while simultaneously preparing the area workforce with the skills essential to successful employment in emerging industries.

We can teach almost any subject you can imagine such as leadership training, forklift operator certification, business writing, computer skills or communication and teamwork.  Our instructors are ready to meet your company's specific job-training needs, thereby increasing your competitiveness in the global market.  Whether your company is new, growing, or retraining incumbent workers, SWTJC has a program for you!


Admission and Registration

Registration for all Workforce Training & Development courses requires a completed Continuing Education Registration & Personal Data Form.  Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) has an "open door" admissions policy, which ensures that everyone who can profit from a college education has an opportunity to enroll.   When applicable, courses may have additional registration requirements that need to be met in order to comply with a certifying agency or a funding source. Students will be informed of all registration requirements for each course and can register at any Southwest Texas Junior College campus location.  Persons registering for contract classes will be registered on site and/or by special arrangement.

Refund Policy

Courses are bound to Southwest Texas Junior College refund policy found in the College catalog. A 100% refund will be made for withdrawals prior to the first day of class. Refunds for withdrawals after the first day of class will be based on the length of the class and day of withdrawal as outlined in the table for Flexible Entry and Non-Semester Length Courses found in the College catalog.
