Graduation Information for Guests

Attending Commencement

Welcome, and congratulations on your graduate’s remarkable achievement of earning a college degree! Commencement is not only a major event in a graduate’s life but also a celebration and acknowledgment of you – friends and family – who have provided guidance, care, and support to the new graduate. We hope the information on our website will help you have the most enjoyable experience possible on this special day.


Doors will open approximately 2 hours before the ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Uvalde Honey Bowl pending no bad weather.

No tickets are required at the Uvalde Honey Bowl as there will be open seating for all guests in the stands.

Services for Disabilities

Handicap parking will be reserved and located at the south side of the stadium next to the field house and also located over at the main entrance on the home side of the stadium. Please make sure to have your decal presentable in your vehicle.

Additionally, there will be designated seating at the lower level area on the track. Individuals may have up to two individuals accompany them in this area. If capacity is full in the designated seating area there still are accommodated areas at the lowest level of the stands where the general public is seated.

Media and Photos

The SWTJC Public Relations staff will be covering the event exclusively from the field during the ceremony and will also broadcast the ceremony live via Facebook and YouTube. No other media personnel will be permitted on the field until after the ceremony is concluded.

Family and friends may enter the field after the ceremony has been completed.

Bad Weather

Currently, there has been no decision to move the ceremonies from the Uvalde Honey Bowl. However, as we continue to monitor the forecast that is subject to change so please keep checking back for potential updates.

Final decision to move from the Uvalde Honey Bowl to the Uvalde High School facilities will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2019. The same will apply for Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 2:00 pm.

In the event of rain on Friday or Saturday, the primary ceremony facility has been changed to the Uvalde High School Gymnasium at 7:00 pm. Overflow facility will be the John Hal Harrell Auditorium which is located near the gymnasium. Four (4) tickets per graduate have already been issued if the secondary facilities are to be utilized. Balloons in the Gymnasium or Auditorium are not permitted.

Graduate Check-In: There will be signs for graduates to follow to enter the designated area for check-in and lineup which will begin at 5:00 pm.

Once we have reached capacity at the Uvalde High School Gymnasium all guests will be directed to the John Hal Harrell Auditorium where the ceremony will be streamed live. There will not be any standing room area permitted in the back or the sides of either facility.

Additional handicap parking will be located directly in front of the auditorium/gymnasium in the primary parking area until capacity is full. Please make sure to have your decal hanging from your mirror.

Overflow parking for the general public is located on the South side of the High School campus.
