College and career event draws large crowd

Uvalde, TX, April 13, 2023 - Approximately 318 high school students from seven different area high schools attended the fall college day at SWTJC in Uvalde on Wednesday, Apr. 12. PHOTOS
 
The high schools in attendance were Uvalde High School, Sabinal High School, Crystal City High School, Carrizo Springs High School, Pearsall High School, Dilley High School, and Cotulla High School.
 
Students attended information sessions on admissions, financial aid, STEM, allied health programs, and law enforcement program. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with community organizations and private businesses.
 
The event was co-sponsored by the transfer and career center, the recruitment and engagement department, and the Middle Rio Grande Workforce Solutions.
 
Numerous prizes were awarded throughout the event, including four $1,000 scholarships, multiple gift cards won, two TVs, an iPad, a Chromebook, AirPods, Beats headphones, and several bluetooth speakers.
 
Winners of the $1,000 scholarships were John Paul Villarreal, Crystal City High School; Aaliyah Luna, Crystal City High School; Tatiana Roiz, Crystal City High School and Xavier Sanchez of Uvalde High School.
