Uvalde campus issues ‘Secure’ alert due to high-speed chase

Uvalde, TX, April 11, 2023 - The SWTJC Uvalde campus issued a “Secure” alert at approximately 1 p.m. due to a highspeed chase on Garner Field Rd, ending in a bailout half a mile East of the campus.
 
The Secure Protocol is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the campus buildings. Whether it's due to violence or criminal activity in the immediate neighborhood, or a dangerous animal in the vicinity, Secure uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection.
 
Students, faculty, and staff received notifications via the SWTJC Safe app, email, text, office phones, smart boards, and social media.
 
College officials issued the “All Clear” status at approximately 1:45 p.m.
 
According to SWTJC Police Chief Jimmy Calliham, multiple assailants fled into the brush. The suspects have not been apprehended as of the time of this communication being published.
