SWTJC mourns the passing of Flores, board president
Uvalde, TX, January 31, 2022 - Rodolfo R. Flores, SWTJC Board of Trustees President, passed away in San Antonio on Jan. 29 at 90 years of age.
Flores began his 46-year tenure when he was elected as a board member on Nov. 18, 1975. In the span of nine years, Flores was elected as vice president of the college board on Aug. 16, 1984. On May 21, 1992, Mr. Flores was elected president of the college board of trustees.
During the December 2021 board meeting, Flores was awarded his 45-year service pin, which he earned in November of 2020, but due to the pandemic, the pinning was delayed until 2021.
“Mr. Flores was a pillar in our community for 47 years. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Flores for 23 years, and he will be greatly missed,” said Dr. Hector Gonzales, SWTJC President. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.”
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
