SWTJC Eta Beta Chapter inducts new members

Uvalde, TX, March 27, 2023 - The Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society held its spring induction Wednesday, March 8, in Uvalde.
 
New inductees include Alexandra Alcocer, Keyla Amaya, Laila Aquino, Bernice Asbury, Parker Boyd, Carla Bustos, Miranda Cervantes, Elizabeth De Leon, Kaylea Field, Yulissa Fuentes, Victoria Garcia, Vivian Garcia, Alma Garza, and Roy Hernandez.
 
Other spring inductees are Amie Johnson, Jayci Karnes, Yongle Li, Aiden Longoria, Arlette Lopez, Lina Martinez, Vida Martinez, Faith Perales, Ryan Quiroz, Reagan Shahan, McKenzie Speer, Sophia Suarez, Arely Torres, and Michelle Villarreal.
 
SWTJC President Dr. Hector Gonzales welcomed the large crowd on hand for the ceremony and encouraged the new members to be active in the organization.
 
"This is a great organization that you're joining; you will get what you put into it," said Gonzales. "I encourage you to be a member but also be active in the organization. Be proud that you are selected and admitted into this awesome organization with a legacy of excellence."
 
Current Eta Beta Chapter officers who conducted the official induction ceremony were Landon Haynes, Jocelyn Garcia, Milagros (Milly) Garza, Brenda Martinez Aguilar, and Alondra Martinez Aguilar.
 
Eta Beta Chapter advisor Dr. Randa Faseler Schell noted this is her tenth year as the advisor for the Uvalde chapter, which she inherited from longtime history instructor Barbra Blair.
 
To earn membership in Phi Theta Kappa, students must complete at least 12 semester hours with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students must also be enrolled in at least six hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain members in good standing.
