SWTJC reports first COVID-19 case

Course instruction will be offered via online and hybrid distance learning modes of instruction for the Summer II Session, with courses meeting synchronously at scheduled times via Zoom or Teams. For the safety of our students and community, the May 2020 Graduation Ceremonies will be provided in a virtual format via YouTube on Saturday, July 11th. Visit our COVID-19 FAQs page for more information. SWTJC will observe summer hours through Friday, July 31st. Office hours will be Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The current work from home environment is still in place unless instructed otherwise.

SWTJC reports first COVID-19 case

Uvalde, TX, June 24, 2020 - Southwest Texas Junior College officials confirmed on June 24 that an employee has reported testing positive for COVID-19.
 
It is the first case involving either a student or employee at the college.
 
According to the employee, they have been working remotely from home. The employee was last at the Uvalde campus on Tuesday, June 16 for approximately two hours in the afternoon and stated to have not had any contact with anyone during their time at the campus.
 
The employee began to exhibit symptoms on June 20 which prompted to be tested.
 
The employee received the test results on Wednesday June 24.
 
College administrators were made aware of the diagnosis directly by the employee at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24
 
SWTJC officials do not believe anyone has been exposed at the college.
 
According to college policy the employee is to self-quarantine for ten days and will not be allowed on campus until cleared.
 
Dr. Hector Gonzales, college president said, “This is a reminder to remain vigilant and continue wearing your mask both on and off campus.”

Due to federal privacy laws, no information about the individual can be released at this time.
