Uvalde, TX, November 12, 2021 - The SWTJC Christmas At the College event returns on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Families will have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa Claus, while choirs from local schools will provide entertainment. The college will have free hot chocolate and cookies.

In addition, there will be a short parade spotlighting various college programs such as the SWTJC Law Enforcement Academy and SWTJC EMT Program. Other participants include the Uvalde High School Band, Mrs. Santa and elves riding in the official SWTJC Christmas float, and special guest Santa Claus riding on the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department Fire Truck.

Other activities include a marshmallow roasting station, letters to Santa, and area school choirs.

School choirs include St. Philip's School, Uvalde Dual Language Academy, Uvalde Classical Academy, Robb School, Knippa School, and Sacred Heart School.

According to College President Dr. Hector Gonzales, planning is well underway. "We are extremely excited about bringing back our full Christmas at the College event. This year we are providing our community with a wonderful array of Christmas light displays, which is sure to please children of all ages," said Gonzales. "We invite the entire community to bring their children to take free pictures with Santa and enjoy some wonderful music from children in the community."

Additionally, the SWTJC Uvalde Catholic Club will host its annual Las Posadas. A posada is a traditional Hispanic celebration depicting Mary and Joseph's search for lodging in Bethlehem.

The festivities take place in front of the Rodolfo R. & Dolores Flores Student Services Building.

During the event, the countdown for lighting the 20-foot Christmas tree along with the arrival of Santa Claus is set to begin shortly after 6 p.m.
