SWTJC students, faculty and staff mourn loss of counselor

 

Albert Alonzo

Current and former students, faculty and staff of Southwest Texas Junior College are mourning the death of Albert Alonzo, TRIO Lead Advisor who was employed at the school for 15 years.

Alonzo, 46, of Uvalde died on Feb. 11, 2018, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. A rosary will be recited on Saturday and again on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

He was born on July 13, 1971, in Uvalde to Bertha (Rubio) and Cirilo Alonzo Jr.

He is survived by his parents, of Uvalde; two brothers, Vidal R. Alonzo and wife, Maribel, of La Pryor and Cirilo Alonzo III and wife, Ana; and one sister, Dolores Salazar and husband, Roman, all of Uvalde; nine nieces and nephews, Vidal Jacob Alonzo and wife, Sylvia, Nathan Alonzo, Nadyne Alonzo, Anthony P. Alonzo and wife, Ericka, Jaime Alonzo and wife, Christina, Rose Contreras and husband, Pedro ‘’Chico’’, Crissy Banda and husband, Frank, Veronica Ybarra and husband, Rudy, and Gabriel Salazar and wife, Lisa; one uncle; and two aunts.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Modesta and Jose Rubio, and paternal grandparents, Manuela and Cirilo Alonzo Sr.

Pallbearers will be Jaime Alonzo, Pedro ‘’Chico’’ Contreras, Vidal Jacob Alonzo, Nathan Alonzo, Mike Flores, Gabriel Salazar, Luis Ruiz, Richard Espinosa and Javier Garcia.
