High school basketball tournament begins today in Uvalde

The 58th  Annual SWTJC High School Invitational Basketball Tournament will begin a three-day run on Thursday, Nov. 30.

Opening game of the tourney will be played at 8:30 a.m. between the girls teams from Leakey and La Pryor, followed by the boys teams from the same schools at 10 a.m.

Other opening round games on Thursday will feature Nueces Canyon and Brackettville, with the girls game at 11:30 a.m. and the boys game at 1 p.m.

Teams from Utopia, D’Hanis Knippa and Sabinal will begin play in the tournament on Friday.

The Utopia and D’Hanis girls will tip off at 8:30 a.m. Friday, followed by the boys game at 10 a.m., while the Sabinal and Knippa girls will play at 11:30 a.m. followed by the boys game at 1 p.m.

Play will conclude on Saturday, Dec. 2, with the girls championship at 5:30, followed by the boys title game at 7 p.m.

The Brackettville Tigers and Nueces Canyon Lady Panthers are defending champions.
